Behind the Scenes: Filming in the American West

Behind the Scenes: Filming in the American West

There's something magical about the American West. The vast landscapes, dramatic light, and untamed wilderness call to filmmakers and adventurers alike. Here's a look behind the scenes of our recent expedition work.

The Gear That Survives

Not all equipment can handle the dust, cold, and rough conditions of backcountry filming. Our go-to kit:

  • Canon C300 III — Weather-sealed and reliable
  • DJI Inspire 3 — For those sweeping aerial shots
  • Zeiss CP.3 Primes — Sharp, durable, beautiful
  • Pelican cases — Everything else dies

The Early Mornings

The best light in the West happens at sunrise. That means 4am wake-ups, hiking in the dark, and being set up before the first rays hit. It's brutal, but the footage is worth it.

Working with Nature

Weather windows are everything. We've learned to be flexible — sometimes the best shots come from unexpected moments. A sudden storm, a wildlife encounter, the way fog rolls through a valley.
